Symbiosis
From the Greek συμβίωσις symbíōsis 'life together', from συν- syn- 'sin-1' and βίωσις bíōsis 'way of life'.
This word defines precisely what we are, a group of people who at a certain point in time pooled their knowledge and ideas in order to create this space and reinvent a way of living, creating and working together.
MATTHIAS HESS (Director Symbiosis art+coworking)
“My goal with Symbiosis is to create unique work environments with a positive, unique and beautiful atmosphere, as well as to provide an excellent service.” Matthias Hess, September 2019
I was born in 1974 in Bad Homburg, Germany. My parents, Dorothea and Heinz Hess, were entrepreneurs and visionaries, and when they founded Hess Natur, they wrote part of the history of Germany's green economy. My upbringing was strongly shaped by the ideas of ecology and sustainability.
But above all it was my school education that awakened in me a love of art and culture. As a student at the Waldorf school in Frankfurt, I was fortunate to enjoy a broad cultural education in all the classical aspects of art - a love that remains with me to this day. After school, I started studies in economics/textile business administration in Reutlingen. An internship semester took me to Peru in 1998 and fell in love with this country, and have been living here now for more than 20 years.
In this time, I have found the focal point of my life and work in Lima. After more than a decade as a sales manager and member of the management team at the textile company Kero Design, I founded my current textile agency La Prenda. With La Prenda, I have been supplying well-known European textile brands with ecological and fairly produced fashion ever since.
In 2017, I stumbled upon an old casona on Avenida Francisco Bolognesi 132, in Barranco. Imbued by the spirit of the colonial era and today magnificently adorned with the imprint of time, this house has been a constant source of inspiration for me.In the summer of 2017, I decided to open up this space and create Symbiosis art+coworking.
Jesus Flores (Administrator Symbiosis)
I have been working in the textile industry since 2008. It was my fate in 2011 to cross paths with the founder of Symbiosis art+coworking, Matthias Hess, and his innovative ideas in the textile field spoke to me immediately. Years later, in 2018, I made the decision to join him in his textile agency.
From that moment on, I gradually became part of a new idea, a risky idea that broke with tradition, but that is what innovation is all about. This is how I became involved in the birth of Symbiosis. A project I feel identified with, a new professional challenge, a new world.
Diego Huaraca (Head of Security Symbiosis)
We have worked with Matthias for many years through the world of textiles. I am retired military, serving as a technician in cities such as Ayacucho, Huancayo, Huancavelica, Ica and Lima. Although always working for peace in Peru, I was also involved in the conflict with Ecuador. Today my life has taken a major turn and I find myself in Symbiosis, surrounded by art and culture.
Kevin Huaraca (Security Symbiosis)
Symbiosis is a place where I feel comfortable with everything that surrounds us, the paintings and art are wonderful to look at, showing things in a very different way. The house is unique and has a great future ahead of it. I am happy to belong to the Symbiosis team.
